Two classic Discoveryland attractions – Space Mountain: Mission 2 and Les Mystères du Nautilus have closed today for prolonged refurbishment ahead of summer. The Videopolis Theatre and Café Hyperion have also closed for refurbishment.
Disneyland Paris has not officially confirmed when either attraction will reopen, or what will happen to them during their closure. Although not officially stated, it is widely expected that both will receive general refurbishments to improve the quality of their ‘shows’, with neither getting major changes made to them. This speculation also suggests that both attractions will reopen in July 2015, ready for the summer season.
The closures are part of a wider plan from Disneyland Paris to improve the quality standards of the parks ahead of the 25th anniversary of the resort’s opening in 2017.
Rumours suggest that Space Mountain: Mission 2 will have the “Mission 2” part of its title dropped when it reopens. The attraction is widely criticised for its unconformable ride quality due to old trains, though these trains are not expected to be replaced in this refurbishment – though this is of course not confirmed by Disneyland Paris! Most of Space Mountain’s improvements are anticipated to be related to the technical equipment backstage, though some guest-visible show improvements are expected and widely looked forward to!
Les Mystères du Nautilus has also had no official comment regarding what the improvements may be, so general maintenance is expected to occur.
Further details will follow here when officially announced by Disneyland Paris.
