Billed widely amongst the Disneyland Paris press and fan community as one of the best new additions to the Disneyland Paris resort since it’s opening in 1992; 10 July 2014 sees the official opening of Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy – a new dark ride attraction which is unique to Disneyland Paris.
Ratatouille: The Adventure is situated in the Toon Studio area of the Walt Disney Studios Park and is based on the eponymous 2007 film by Disney • Pixar. The attraction and mini-land of La Place de Rémy features the same artistically exaggerated Paris as that in the film.
Without giving away any important spoilers – guests board ‘Ratmobiles’ and are shrunk down to the size of rats, on a journey to reach a dinner prepared by Chef Rémy. This journey, as you can imagine, takes an unexpected and exciting twist!
These Ratmobiles are entirely trackless, operating on a local GPS system similar to that of Pooh’s Hunny Hunt in Tokyo Disneyland and Mystic Manor in Hong Kong Disneyland. Ratmobiles travel in packs of three, scampering around ‘like rats’ with sudden, quick and exciting movements. The attraction also features extensive use of Walt Disney Imagineering’s famed special effects including state-of-the-art projection technology and clever temperature effects.
Ratatouille: The Adventure is anticipated to be a major success, as a real love letter to Paris and Europe in general. Currently the attraction is planned to be unique to Disneyland Paris, as there are currently no plans to replicate it elsewhere.
Disneyland Paris clearly expects it to be a popular attraction, allocating it not only a Fastpass queue, but also a Single Rider queue to increase efficiency.
Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy is part of a new mini-land called La Place de Rémy, a beautiful new Parisan themed corner of the park containing many nods to the film which fans will be quick to notice! The area contains a new shop, Chez Marianne Souvenirs de Paris – which will not be opened on 10 July – and a new table service restaurant: Bistrot Chez Rémy.
